Congratulations on your big wins at the IF3 for Best AM cinematography and Best AM soundtrack. Were those a big surprise or did you know it was coming?
Sure man, we didn't have any idea we would win something, just to be selected in the AM was amazing.
You're currently going to school, where and what are you studying?
Well actualy I'm in a school break, I'm taking a year off to provide you a better movie next year, haha! But I'm going back next fall for graphic design at University Laval.
Is it hard to balance school with making movies and skiing?
Oh yes it is, that's why im taking a year off!
Do your aspirations push you to do more infront or behind the camera?
Both!
Mac or PC?
Oh lord, Mac for life.
What software do you use to make your masterpieces?
Final Cut Pro, Aftereffects, a lot of Adobe Illustrator too.
What kind of cameras do you shoot with?
Panasonic HVX200 and Sony HVR V1
How did you learn to edit?
Well I learned how to edit with my fathers Ibook G4 back in the days, haha, with imovie, which is the best software to learn this stuff by the way. I started editing cause I blew my ACL so I couldn't ski during a whole season.
Is this something you have always dreamed about or is it an evolution of doing what you love?
Definitely an evolution of doing what I love (skiing). Since my knee injury I turned my passion into videomaking more than into skiing itself, and needless to say it is safer than hitting a 4iple urban kink!
What goes into putting together a soundtrack for a film?
A lot of things. I think the soundtrack is the frame of a movie. Each cut goes on beat, each landing needs to fit the song. And for each and every single segment there is one song that fits perfectly.
Who makes the call on what songs are going to be used in a soundtrack?
Most of the time I do, cause i'm the editor, but that doesn't mean I don't take riders or filmers opinions into consideration.
What's up your sleeve for this coming season?
A lot of new projects, way more traveling for sure, a new rider to the game and two new filmers, so next ESK's will be off the hook!!
Any words of wisdom for upcoming ski film producers?
Keep working, it'll pay one day!
Who are some of your inspirations for making movies?
Iberg...
Which genre (urban, park, big mtn, etc.) of skiing do you most prefer shooting?
Urban for sure but I didn't have the chance to shoot big mountain, it must be crazy
What is your favorite ski film?
Royalty
What is your favorite ski film section?
Damn this is a good one, haha... I'd say...Wallish in Get Lucky is kind of crazy madness shit, but also any Corey Vanular or Ahmet Dadali segments in Level 1 are waaay dope.
Favorite skier to watch on film? To ski with? To shoot film of?
To watch: Ahmet Dadali.
To ski with: Phil Porlier.
To shoot film of: Yan Bussières
Do you listen to music while you ski?
Obviously
What are five to ten songs that you would use to make a soundtrack for your life?
Ohhhh I could say a lot but some are secret, haha! But..
...those are some but i could write down a ton.
Top 25 most played songs on your iTunes?
Last song/album purchased?
Viva la Vida - Coldplay
Last concert you went to?
Mickey Dangerous at the Massive party IF3
Favorite new band?
I'd say The Bravery
Favorite old band?
Metallica
You play guitar right? What sort of music do you play? Do you play in a band? Any other musical talent?
Oh it's weird, haha, but I'm a blues and jazz player. My father used to play jazz like nobody else does, but now he's too lazy so I play alone, haha.
